50 Years
of peace

I was born in Saigon, the “Paris of Orient”. It was an exciting time – the end of French colonialism. We lost our beloved city on April 30th, 1975. Our families were divided. I defied my anti-communist father to see the other side, to know their truth and history. I’ve spent more than half of my life making films to reconcile our fractured past

Join us to experience and celebrate Vietnam – my country, not a war. Be part of the vibrant street life of Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) and Hanoi, the ancient capital dotted with lakes, pagodas; a city of poetry and many untold histories.

As the only Vietnamese- American person who has filmed for 40 years continuously in Vietnam. I’m willing to share my amazing, heartfelt stories, giving you exlusive access to never-before-seen footage and photos.

40 years
filming in vietnam

In the ‘80s and the ‘90s, I was branded as the bridge needed to reunite Vietnam and the USA – to cross together and share a new language. Oliver Stone, Stirling Silliphant and I co-founded a New York 501 C 3, non-profit organization to make films for peace, Indochina Film Arts Foundation (IFAF). From Hollywood to Hanoi (originally titled Journey Home) provided that bridge. Senator John Kerry showcased the film in the Halls of Congress on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. I’ve shown the film and lectured at Harvard, Yale, Colombia, NYU, UCLA, USC, Stanford, Dartmouth, Tulane University, and more. Learn more ri arrow down line
